Welding Table Components

Complete tables are built from dozens of laser cut parts, which is just one key component to the overall accuracy of the finished product. Sure, our CNC machines can maintain accuracy to within .002″, but let’s face it – a stack of parts isn’t going to perfectly fabricate itself!

Welding Table Construction

Read our full article: How We Build Super Flat Welding Tables

The strength of a Texas Metal Works weld table comes from the interlocking series of ribs supporting the surface. These precision cut ribs lock together and also interlock with the table surface.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 50x100-Fixtures-1024x576.jpg

As you might guess, fabricating a huge table with precision requires extraordinary effort and a lot of practice. But we also augment our fabricator’s experience with the best tools available. In addition to using 142 bolts, 132 feet of threaded rod, 63 fixturing plates and making hundreds welds – we also fabricate all of our table on a heavy duty milled reference surface!

You can read a complete discussion of our welding table build process here, but the short version is that we start out by securely bolting every table top directly to a precision milled surface.

Only after securing the top to a reference surface do we add the ribs and sidewalls and secure them by bolting everything firmly in place before locking it in with hundreds of weld points.

At the end of the day, we’re not happy until we can lay a level across the surface and visually verify that there is almost no (or none whatsoever) daylight peeking through.

Notes on Shipping

As you can imagine, these massive tables can be a little challenging to ship and receive. When we ship any of our tables the carriers require us to put them on a pallet. But normal pallets won’t work, so we manufacture custom pallets specifically for shipping these bad boys.

Each table is bolted directly to a custom pallet with heavy-duty hex head screws to ensure it stays put during transport. If you choose the option with casters or purchase accessories, they’ll be placed in a box and safely strapped to the pallet.

30×60 Ready to Ship

Blue heat shrink wrap is used to protect the tabletop against dust and water. It also serves as the perfect visual indicator of topside damage resulting from delivery. We encourage customers to fully inspect their tables upon delivery and before signing the trucking company’s Bill of Laden.

Pallets are loaded onto a truck at our dock via forklift, and we use long fork extensions to put them in the truck. Shipping companies only carry a small pallet jack on the truck, and those jacks can reposition many of our tables up to our 40×80 size. Larger tables can’t easily be moved via pallet jack. So on the receiving end, it’s going to require a similar setup for unloading purposes. Please note: If you don’t have a forklift, you’ll need to purchase optional Liftgate Services.

At a bare minimum, you’ll need 48″ forks to lift the table out of the truck. For our 40×80 or larger tables, we recommend 72″ or 84″ fork extensions. Amazon sells a bunch of extensions in case you need them. We’ve used these 72″ fork extensions to get the job done, and these 84″ fork extensions work even better. When buying forklift extensions pay particular attention to the width of your forks to make sure you get the right size!

If you can get heavier duty fork extensions we HIGHLY recommend it! Especially if you order your table along with several accessories that will ship on top. The tables plus accessories can often exceed 1,000 pounds, and the light-duty extensions may flex or bend. Please contact us if you have any concerns about receiving, or if we need to make special plans to get things delivered safely!

30″ Wide Table: Casters or Leveling Feet (Not Both)

Customers should choose between casters or leveling feet on any 30″ wide table. The picture below reveals the problem with incorporating both. Incorporating both casters and leveling feet creates a potential tipping hazard for tables as the inset leveling feet are only 4.875″ apart.

Alternatively, you can retrofit our table by welding two extra cross braces on the longer side and add our Self-Leveling Feet (4 Pack for 5″ Casters) or Self-Leveling Feet (6 Pack for 5″ Casters). With longer tables, you should have ample space even after accounting for the caster rotation.

Bought this table last year and it has held up super well. Mainly use it for tig welding aluminum. The heavy duty casters are really good quality, table super flat, and i love the design and capability. Also have moved across town with it like 6 months ago and it held up great.

I cannot say enough good things about my Texas Metal Works welding table, including the process of purchasing the table. I had shopped a great deal looking for a fab table that would fit my shop, be precise and scalable to match the project work I was doing now and what I might tackle in the future, be durable enough to last years while staying flat and true. I am a home hobbyist and fab a great deal of smaller projects for automotive, artwork, and fixtures. Purchasing the table was a big step for me, but the crew at Texas Metal works made the process easy and simple. Their recommendations for the accessories were spot on, which met my needs then and still do today. The freight and logistics were well communicated and efficient with the assembled weld table arriving on time and no damage whatsoever. I have used the table consistently for more than 3 years no and the weld table is still flat and true, and my work comes off the table the same, flat, true, and precise.
Lastly, I rarely rate any product with 5 stars, but feel I have no choice but to rate the Texas Metal Works weld/fab table a 5.

I struggled for years with a mostly flat table and finally decided it was time. The table itself is very well made and extremely flat. Even after really cranking a piece into square, the table doesn’t budge. My only regret was not buying this table sooner! The Texas Metal Works team was helpful, friendly, and produced a great product. 100% recommended!

    Serious table for serious work

Texas Metal Works tables are not cheap; they are actually quite expensive (compared to box store offerings). That being said, these tables are a great value. Serious tables for those who want to do real quality, serious work. TMW tables are on a completely different level of quality and craftsmanship than the crappy offerings from Northern Tool or Harbor Freight. I am a hack fabricator / welder, but my skill level increased five-fold with this table. The tables were designed by folks who know what the fitter/welder needs to make quality welds: A heavy work platform with no give that is flatter than flat, built for use with a system of stops and clamps that keeps the work in place at the proper angle and position while you weld.

When I bought this table and all the stops and clamps and extensions, I thought that I was spending too much. Splurging. As soon as the table arrived and was outfitted in place, the splurging feeling changed into an investing feeling. A very satisfied feeling. I had invested in a high quality tool ( like buying a good Wilton Machinists vise or a Quincy Air Compressor) that becomes an heirloom. Your son or daughter will also value this table one day if that is their direction. By the way, you really need to get a good array of the stops, clamps, extensions to really unleash the power of these tables. Also, all of the advice provided by the Pozadzides is quite sound and valuable; get the pallet fork extensions for unloading (if you live on a farm), the WD-40 by the gallon for protecting the table, and the magnet handles for lifting and handling the table covers. The table was well packed and delivered, with no surprises thanks to the pallet fork extensions.

Do yourself a favor and invest in a quality fabricating and welding table. Texas Metal Works is it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The only downside is that you can’t use “crummy equipment” anymore as an excuse for bad welds once you have one!

Received this table, built to my height spec, yesterday. The table is dead flat and square and appears to be bomb-proof. This is a well thought out design, quality American craftsmanship, with a lot of versatile options for expansion or adaptation to various uses and needs. I ordered a drawer with mine so I had another place for fixtures and tooling and it came with soft close glides and perfect alignment. Looks like the table will outlive me. I can’t say enough good things about this table – worth every penny.

From start to finish this process was about as smooth as someone could hope for. Excellent customer service experience after my purchase. I was called and given all the information I needed to have a successful delivery without any hiccups. Upon unwrapping the table I feasted my eyes on an absolute masterpiece. You can tell a lot of thought and quality went into the craftsmanship of this table. Zero corners cut! Cannot wait to get working on it and pass it on to my son one day. Thanks again TMW

The whole experience has been great. When you chat with someone, it’s actually John or Kirk the owners. I got a phone call from a very nice woman notifying me that the table was shipping out. They used Roadrunner to ship it and that all went well. The table is perfect and showed up looking just like the pictures in the description. I received it in 12 days to Southern California (8 business days) during Christmas time. The casters have grease zerks for every moving part and that 500lb. table rolls around very easy on them.
Really happy with everything. Texas Metal Works is setting the bar and makes me proud to support an American company.

I am a small engineering/design shop, moving into more fabrication of certain jobs. I did research on several weld tables, and actually had the chance to see several big name table at trade shows. When it came time to purchase I spoke to several companies from big to small. It seemed that most sales reps would look at the order which was at least $7500 plus depending on manufacture and then they would try to upsell more products without really answering my questions with items I had specified. When I reached out to Texas Metal Works, I spoke to John the owner about my order. He was very helpful in explaining some things and recommended I change my order to smaller size until I have better idea of project scope. We also discussed the modular features of the table with being able to add on attachments to increase size without needing a large table right away. John recommended some items I had specificized may not be utilized as much as others and showed me where i can save money. You rarely meet someone that will save you money vs trying to squeeze a little more from you. The ordering and follow up was excellent with all involved. Once table arrived I was more than please with the purchase. I feel i have bought a really well designed and fabricated table. I wouldn’t hesitate to order again or recommend to someone for a welding needs. Keep up what you guys do!!

Excellent quality table and very FLAT. I also got the starter accessory pack, which is packed with great stuff for getting up and running. Shipping was also excellent. The table was well protected and on a pallet that is built like a tank. Communication with Texas Metal Works was also great. This is a great product and excellent value! Highly Recommend.

Arrived damage free and perfectly flat! Very good build quality. Went with a smaller table to try it out and so it could be modular, look forward to ordering more in the future! Thanks Texas metal works, you’ve earned my business!
