Optional Delivery Services
We work hard to take the stress out of purchasing (and receiving) our welding tables and other heavy custom metal works. In fact, that’s the whole reason we assemble our products prior to delivery — we want your new tools ready for use! As you can imagine, moving 500-1,500 pound welding tables across the country is quite different than dropping a letter off at FedEx.
Texas Metal Works tries to make it easy for our customers by including free basic ground transport on orders of $600 or more. Sometimes, our customers request more options than our free standard transportation. We’re happy to help!
Upgraded Delivery Options
We offer two optional delivery services for our customers:
Liftgate Services – $75
Buying a welding table and don’t have a forklift? No problem! We offer delivery services with liftgates for a small charge.
(See explanation below.)
Expedited Shipping – $250
If you’re short on time and need faster shipping, we can help! We’ll coordinate expedited shipping with the carrier.
(See explanation below.)
Liftgate Services Explained
The only way for us to get our largest products to customers is to strap them to a pallet and ship them via a common carrier. You’ve seen these huge 18 wheelers taking goods all over the country… companies like ABF, Road Runner, and hundreds more!
On our end, we load those pallets onto a box truck with a forklift, and that truck takes them to a distribution warehouse where they are again moved to another truck destined for your location. But the truck that will ultimately transport your pallet to you only keeps a pallet jack on board, which they use to bring your pallet to the end of the truck where it’s your responsibility to get it out.
Some people, especially those in rural areas might have a tractor or other piece of equipment that can be outfitted with forks. If so, that will work! But if you don’t have any sort of equipment to lift the very heavy pallet, the carrier needs to bring a special truck with a motorized elevator on the back. The driver rolls the pallet onto the lift and lowers it to the ground for you.
Of course, those special trucks cost money, and they pass that on to us. So the $75 fee we collect is simply a pass through fee.
NOTE: Using a liftgate service will almost always delay the shipment by an extra day or two. That’s because they need to transfer the package to a smaller box truck equipped with a liftgate. But hey, when you need it, you need it! 😉
Expedited Shipping Explained
First of all, this is crazy, but it costs more for us to ship a large Welding Table across the country than it does to ship it overseas! Insane, right? Shipping is a very complex process with rates that change from day to day depending on demand and availability. We’ve chosen to build in a fixed amount for shipping into our products based on the most cost effective method of getting our products to you. This helps us keep our cost low, and avoid surprises for you!
Every time we ship a pallet we have to get a new custom quote, and our Logistics team presents us with a small number of options with carriers we trust, including pricing and delivery lead times. We choose the most cost effective route with a reasonable delivery time frame. For example:
- Carrier A – 10 day lead time, $200
- Carrier B – 5-6 day lead time, $350
- Carrier C – 4-5 day lead time, $550
- Carrier D – 4 day guaranteed, $750
If we see a situation like this, we will choose Carrier B. We don’t want our clients to wait for the slowest form of transport. But it’s also not worth 60% more money to shave one day off a delivery timeline.
HOWEVER! Sometimes a client needs every day we can shave off of both the production, and delivery. So for those instances we have the optional $250 expedite fee, which we will use to bump up a delivery as much as we possibly can! In some cases, for those within driving distance this might even involve hiring a dedicated Hotshot driver to personally deliver the product.
