Optional Call-Ahead Delivery Scheduling Fee for Businesses
Why We Charge a $50 Call-Ahead Scheduling Fee
In shipping, timing can be everything. When shipping Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), your shipment is just one of many on a truck, and the driver works through multiple stops along a planned route. This setup keeps shipping costs down, but can also make specific delivery times harder to promise.
That’s where call-ahead scheduling comes in. If someone needs a call from the driver before delivery or wants to set a specific drop-off time, it can disrupt the flow. The driver may need to pause, make a call, confirm a time, and even adjust their route — all of which takes extra time and effort.
Why the $50 Fee?
Coordinating call-ahead deliveries means extra work for the LTL dispatch team and drivers. That said, carriers charge up to $200 in fees. These fees, called Accessorials, are additional charges beyond the base freight rate for services other than standard pick-up and delivery.
To cover these added costs, we charge a standard $50 fee for call-ahead scheduling, which helps defray the costs charged by carriers.
Of course, this is an optional, non-refundable service. Once we book the LTL carrier, there is no refunding the fee — as the carrier will not credit unused services.
