Size a weld and find what it will carry. Works for fillet, PJP and CJP groove, and plug or slot welds in carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum. It returns the effective throat, the allowable (ASD) or design (LRFD) capacity per inch and total, checks the base metal (and the heat-affected zone for aluminum), and gives the AISC minimum and maximum fillet size. Sizing aid for fabrication, not a stamped structural design.
Steel and stainless per AISC 360-22 Chapter J (weld nominal stress 0.60 x FEXX, directional increase per J2.4); aluminum per the Aluminum Design Manual (weld governed by filler shear, adjacent base metal governed by the heat-affected zone). Cross-check prequalified joints and procedure limits against AWS D1.1 (steel) or AWS D1.2 (aluminum). This is a fabrication sizing aid, not a substitute for a licensed engineer's stamped design.
