Fabrication Unit Converter
Length, pressure, torque, feed rate, density, and more, with smart fraction input, a fraction-to-decimal-to-mm snapper, and every unit updating live at once.
Built for the shop, not the classroom
This converter leads with the units fabricators actually reach for: inch fractions, mils, ksi, surface feet per minute, lbf-ft of torque, and pounds per cubic inch. Type a value once and every unit in the category updates live, so you are not re-keying the same number into a different box.
The input is forgiving. Enter 3 1/2, 7/16, or 12.7 and it parses the fraction or decimal automatically.
The fraction converter
For length, the dedicated card snaps any decimal or millimeter value to the nearest 1/64" fraction and tells you how far off it is in thousandths. That is the difference between "0.4375 is exactly 7/16" and "11 mm is about 7/16, but 4 thou over."
Common questions
How do I convert millimeters to an inch fraction?
Choose the Length category, type the millimeter value, and set the From unit to mm. The fraction card shows the nearest 1/64" fraction along with the exact decimal inch and the rounding error in thousandths. For example, 10 mm is 0.3937", which rounds to 25/64" (about 1 thou under).
What is SFM and why is it in here?
SFM is surface feet per minute, the standard way to express cutting speed for drills, mills, and saws. It lives under the Speed / Feed category alongside in/min, so you can move between cutting speed and feed-rate units without a separate chart.
Are the conversions exact?
The factors are the defined SI and customary values (1 inch = 25.4 mm exactly, 1 lbf = 4.4482216 N, and so on), carried to seven significant figures. Temperature uses the exact Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, and Rankine relations. Display is trimmed for readability but the math is full precision.
Why does pressure also say stress?
Pressure and stress share units (force per area), so psi, ksi, MPa, and bar all convert the same way. Material yield and tensile strengths are quoted in ksi or MPa, which is why both are front and center.
