Normally we post about projects we design and fabricate on our own, but this time we’ve got to give a huge shout-out to Richard Day at 42Fab in Oklahoma City. Richard has a YouTube channel where he shares all sorts of projects, and when we saw his Giant Steel Chiminea project it was love at first sight!
The 42Fab GIANT Steel Chiminea Project
Not only did he make a video about this magnificent piece, but he generously shared the plans for it as well! So we decided to make one, and it turned out even better in person than in the video! Honestly, the photos just don’t do it justice.
If you want one of these giants for your own yard, we added them to our Online Store. Shipping is a beast on these bad boys, because after all it has to be packed on an 8′ pallet, and it weighs a couple hundred pounds. But I assure you, as soon as you see it standing in your yard – it’s worth the trouble!
More About the Giant 7 Foot Chimenea!
The design of this Chiminea offers a wide steady base, that slopes inward to a tall smokestack. Once it’s in place, the unit is very stable.
The fire pit area has a nice large opening that can easily accommodate logs and other flammable material up to 18″ wide. You can easily fit Duraflames and other premade firelogs in the chiminea.
Both the area at the bottom designed to hold firewood, and the area in the middle for the fire, have raised sidewalls where they open. Several inches of steel will keep things contained so nothing falls out.
Although all of the vertical seams are fully welded and artfully ground smooth, the fire and storage shelves are stitch welded to allow water to drain. This ensures they don’t become holding tanks the first time it rains!
The Final Word
Just to be clear, this is not one of those cheap import chimineas that are made out of flimsy sheet metal. This fire pit is crafted from 10 gage CNC cut plate steel, then completely welded and hand finished by a master craftsman.
