ModPro Wall Panels FAQ

Our wall panels come with wall hangers included in every kit. You’ll mount the hangers to your wall studs (or use appropriate anchors for concrete/block walls), then the panels hook onto the hangers. The whole process takes about 15 to 20 minutes per panel with a drill and a level.

Here’s the basic process:

  1. Hold the wall hanger strip at the height you want and use a level to mark your screw holes. We recommend hitting studs whenever possible.
  2. Secure the hanger to the wall with the included hardware (lag screws for wood studs, or your own anchors for masonry).
  3. Hang the panel on the hanger strip. It hooks on from the top and sits flush against the wall.
  4. Add your hooks, bins, and accessories. Everything slides into the panel slots, no tools needed.

For table panels, it’s even simpler. They bolt between your welding table legs using the existing laser-cut holes. No drilling, no modification. Two bolts per side and you’re done.

The panels are 16-gauge steel, so they’re heavy enough to stay rigid but not so heavy that installation is a two-person job. One person can handle a 40″ or 50″ wall panel easily. For the 80″ to 120″ kits, having a second pair of hands makes it faster.

There are three main categories, and the differences matter more than most people think.

Pressboard / hardboard pegboard. This is the brown stuff you see at hardware stores for $10 to $20 a sheet. It’s made from compressed wood fiber. It warps in humidity, breaks if you load it too heavily, and the hooks constantly fall out because the holes aren’t reinforced. It’s cheap, and you get what you pay for.

Thin-gauge steel pegboard ($30 to $80 per panel). Companies like Wall Control sell 20-gauge to 22-gauge steel panels. They’re a big step up from pressboard. They’re magnetic, they don’t warp, and the hooks stay put. But at 20 to 22 gauge, the panels still flex under heavy loads, especially at wider spans. Fine for a home garage organizing hand tools, but they have a ceiling.

Heavy-gauge steel panel systems ($69 to $929). This is where our ModPro system lives. Our panels are 16-gauge laser-cut steel, which is double the thickness of consumer-grade metal pegboard. They don’t flex. They’re strong enough that the wall you mount them on will fail before the panel does. They’re powder coated textured black, fully magnetic, and designed to integrate with our welding tables and workbenches. The slot pattern accepts purpose-built hooks, bins, tool holders, and grinder hangers, not the generic bent-wire hooks that fall out of standard pegboard.

The price difference reflects a real difference in material, engineering, and durability. A $40 panel is a garage organizer. Our panels are shop infrastructure that’ll outlast the wall they’re mounted on.

Metal pegboard ranges from about $10 per panel for pressboard to over $900 for a professional-grade system. Here’s the real breakdown.

Pressboard pegboard: $10 to $20 per 4×2 sheet. Hardware store staple. Warps, breaks, hooks fall out. Disposable.

Consumer metal pegboard: $30 to $80 per panel. Wall Control, Project Source, and similar brands. Thin-gauge steel (20 to 22 gauge). Works for home garages and light use. Expect to replace panels or deal with flex if you load them heavily.

ModPro Wall Panels: $289 to $929 per kit. Our wall panel kits range from 30″ ($289) to 120″ ($929). Each kit includes the panels and wall hangers. These are 16-gauge laser-cut steel, powder coated, and designed for professional shops. We also sell extension packs to expand an existing installation.

ModPro Table Panels: $69 to $109. Our table panels mount between welding table legs for tableside storage. Five sizes from 30″ to 70″.

Accessories: $4 to $140. Hooks start at $4.99 for a single 3″ hook. Bin kits run $20 to $34. Grinder hangers are $15. Multi-packs bring the per-piece cost down significantly.

The total cost of a typical shop setup (60″ wall panel kit plus a dozen hooks and a few bin kits) is about $500 to $700. That’s more than a sheet of pressboard, but it’s a one-time investment that won’t need replacing.

Absolutely. But there’s a big difference between what works in a home garage and what’s built for a professional shop.

For a home garage, a consumer metal pegboard from Wall Control or similar ($30 to $80 per panel) is usually fine. You’re hanging hand tools, extension cords, and gardening gear. The loads are light and the panels don’t need to be bombproof.

For a welding shop, fab shop, or production environment, you need something that can handle the weight of grinders, clamps, heavy tooling, and daily abuse. That’s what we built ModPro for. Our 16-gauge steel panels hold serious weight without flexing. The purpose-built hooks and bins are laser-cut steel, not bent wire. And because the system integrates with our welding tables and workbenches, your storage travels with your work surface.

The magnetic feature is a big deal in a shop environment. You can use magnetic trays, magnetic tool holders, and magnetic parts catchers alongside the slot-mounted accessories. That gives you way more flexibility than any peg-style system.

If you’re outfitting a serious workspace and want storage that’ll last as long as your equipment, start with a wall panel kit and build from there.

Here’s why steel panels are worth the upgrade over wood or pressboard pegboard.

Strength. Metal pegboard doesn’t sag, warp, or break under load. Our ModPro panels are 16-gauge steel, which means you can hang grinders, heavy clamps, and full bin kits without worrying about the panel pulling away from the wall. Pressboard fails under a fraction of that weight.

Durability. Steel doesn’t absorb moisture, rot, or degrade over time. In a shop environment where there’s humidity, cutting fluid mist, and temperature swings, wood pegboard falls apart within a couple of years. Our powder coated steel panels look and perform the same after a decade.

Magnetic capability. Steel panels are magnetic. That gives you a second layer of organization on top of the slot system. Magnetic trays, tool holders, and parts catchers all work directly on the panel surface. Wood and aluminum can’t do this.

Hooks stay put. Anyone who’s used pressboard pegboard knows the frustration: you pull a tool off and the hook comes with it. Our purpose-built steel hooks slide into precision slots and stay where you put them, even when you’re grabbing tools quickly with one hand.

Expandability. Our wall panels are infinitely expandable. Start with 40 inches and add another 40 next month. The slot pattern lines up and accessories span across panels without gaps. You’re not locked into a fixed size.

Integration. This is the big one that consumer pegboard can’t touch. ModPro accessories work on our wall panels, our table panels, and directly on the legs and cross braces of our welding tables. One system, everything interchangeable, everything at arm’s reach.

If you’ve ever had a pegboard wall, you know the problems: they’re flimsy, they warp, the hooks fall out, and the whole thing looks terrible after six months. Our ModPro panels are 16-gauge steel, which is double the thickness of cheap metal pegboard and vastly superior to pressboard or MDF.

ModPro panels don’t flex or warp when you load them up. They’re strong enough that the wall you mount them on will fail before the panel does. They’re also magnetic, so you can use magnetic organizers in addition to our hook and bin system. And because they’re powder coated textured black, they actually look good on a shop wall.

Wall panels come in seven kit lengths: 30″, 40″, 50″, 60″, 80″, 100″, and 120″. Prices range from $289 for the 30″ to $929 for the 120″. Each kit includes the panels and wall hangers, so everything you need to mount is in the box.

We also sell extension packs if you want to expand your wall later. The panels are infinitely expandable. Start with 40″ and add another 40″ next month. The hole pattern lines up and accessories span across panels without gaps.

Yes. Every ModPro accessory (hooks, bins, tool holders, grinder hangers, utility hooks) is 100% interchangeable across table panels and wall panels. Buy a set of hooks for your welding table panel, and they’ll fit your wall panels just as well. This means you can move your entire organization setup if you rearrange your shop, or share accessories between your table and wall stations.

Yes. Unlike wood, aluminum, or stainless steel panels, our powder coated steel panels are fully magnetic. You can use magnetic tool holders, magnetic trays, magnetic hooks, and anything else with a magnet right alongside our purpose-built hooks and bins. It gives you more flexibility for organizing than any peg-style system.
